I pulled out the loose heat shield that covers the front portion of the exhaust system. But then you run the risk of heating up other stuff that shouldn't run that hot. I pulled into an industrial park, looked at the truck, could not figure it out.

On mine only 1 or 2 bolt holes had enlarged & it was still in place but would rattle. After paying to have a transmission installed (98 auto 3.4l) the truck developed a ticking/heat shield rattling noise at idle after warming up. I was able to get the plastic spacer off of the shield with the 10mm bolt but i don't know how the spacer stayed attached to the support bar. It will be obvios if the the shield is loose or the holes are too big for the fasteners.
